The Week Revisited

Since you've all kept up on Dordt College Men's basketball I don't need to recap the game for you. The team we lost to, Lindenwood University, is still competing. They have advanced to the Final Four and play tomorrow night.

We didn't tip-off in our game until shortly after 11:00pm Wednesday night(1 hour and 15 minutes behind schedule) and finished around 12:30am on Thursday morning. But I must say, the other activities in Branson were great to be a part of.

Tuesday night was an introductory show at the Dixie Stampede, the theatre owned by none other than the great Dolly Parton. The first segment was a juggler who showed why he holds several world records. The second part, the actual show, was a variety of competitions, singing, dancing and horse riding tricks.

Before the show began I and the other two seniors were interviewed by Wiley Hendrix, a Branson Daily News Copy Editor. He asked some questions, jotted down some notes and printed the following in Friday's edition of the Branson Daily News.

“This place is awesome,” said Jim Brinks, a senior at Dort (Iowa). “It’s a lot more than I expected and the people are very hospitable. I especially liked the Tip-Off Banquet at the (Dixie Stampede). That was better than any other banquet I have ever been at.”

C'mon Wiley, give me some credit here. I'm almost a college graduate, I don't sound that bad. I did say I appreciated Branson's hospitality, but that the Dixie Stampede is the better than any other banquet I've ever been too??? The bad thing is, and Wiley must not have learned this in journalism school, that he didn't only misquote me, he also asked us these questions before the banquet even began.

Great, just great. Not only did everyone read that in the Branson paper, but Wiley did say that he was going to send this to our local paper, which is only more bad news for me. Hopefully this doesn't spread as fast as it did among my teammates.

On the bright side, tomorrow I fly to California for my spring break to spend time with three other roommates. Not sure yet what is on the agenda, but I'm sure its going to be memorable. I'll be sure to let you know how it goes, along with some good pictures, hopefully.
