2 Nights--2 Doses of Humility

Its been a great couple of days since the holiday weekend ended. However, two nights in a row have resulted in a shattered sense of personal pride.

Tuesday, July 5: Kalamazoo Christian Middle School.
Our weekly basketball games at the middle school are usually pretty fun and entertaining. Lots of trash talk between the older guys and younger guys, lots of in your face jokes, yelling at each other, etc. Last night was the first time that we had a female play with us. I had been playing well most of the night, even with my severely tight quads. The last game I was feeling quite good about myself because I got to guard the female (Betsy). She was by no means a great basketball player, but she hustled and tried hard. She was definately a person I should have had no problem guarding. Betsy made two baskets all night long, just so happens that both shots were in the final game when I was guarding her. The last shot (which turned out to be the game winning shot) was also made on me. Its usually a given that whoever I guard is going to be making a lot of shots, but a girl?? Ouch.

Wednesday, July 6: Gull Lake, Richland, Michigan.
Our weekly boating trip is always a great time. Consisting of myself and a few close friends, we hit the water around 6:30 and take turns wake boarding. My first round of wake boarding went well, I successfully accomlished changing which foot I had facing forward (which can be difficult). The second round of boarding is a different story. I was skimming along the water outside of the boat's wake at approximately 20mph when I got this bright idea to try and change which foot was facing forward. The next part happens so quickly its hard to describe. Mid-switch, the front of the wake board catches the surface of the water and immediately dips under the surface (a very, very bad sign when traveling 20mph over the water). This happened so fast that my feet became separated from the boots on the wake board while still holding on to the rope. I let go of the rope as fast as I could, but could not change my fate of doing an incredible face plant into the water. I was able to turn my head to the side, which only resulted in a very painful shot to my right ear drum. After that, I was done for the night, no more.

On a more positive note, I was able to share a moment with my car. Misty May turned over 44,000 miles tonight on my way home. Each thousand mile turnover is exciting, but the fact that "Holla Back Girl" by Gwen Steffani was playing on the radio was even more of a treat.

Jim you are getting much better at wake boarding don't worry about it. But I would have been willing to pay big money to have your fall on tape. That was the loudest smack I have ever heard while driving the boat. And the betsy thing that is just your luck
