Love Stinks

First of all, no, I did not just get dumped (by a girl) nor did I have an emotional roller coaster of a relationship. For some people, like me and this other bachelor for life, this would normally be a true statement. But for my friend Curt, this song has turned out to be a great payout.

Last night, Cheesburger in Paradise had their weekly kareoke contest. I'm not a singer myself, but I gotta go to support Curt. He shines during this song. He begins with the classic Adam Sandler intro to the song, making fun of the people who will never find true love, like the mutants at table 9 and the bearded lady. And to Curt's credit, he didn't just stand behind the monitor. He knew the song and was all over the place letting people yell into the microphone. He had everyone enthralled by his talent, bartenders, waitresses, bus boys, the people in the back, young people, old people...everyone.

First prize was $50, Curt won. Just for singing, they gave away another $50. Curt won that too. A few weeks ago, to celebrate Trinity being done for summer, he sang the same song at another place in Chi-town. He won $100 first prize there too. $200 for singing Love Stinks, not a bad payout. Congrats Curt. What can you possibly do next week to top last night's performance. Anyone else want to help Curt out with a suggestion?

My past karaoke experiences lend me to believe that nothing gets the crowd going better than a passionate performance of a Broadway musical number.

I suggest "76 Trombones" for a more upbeat crowd, and "If I Were a Rich Man" for the more white trash, dive-bar crowd.
