Fortune Cookies & Bad Fortunes

Upon my recent visit to the Szechuan (Shesh-wan) Inn, a Chinese food establishment in Orange City, two of my friends recieved disturbing messages in their fortune cookies.

Message #1: "God will give you everything that you want."

Now wait a second. The last I knew was that China was a communist country in which it was illegal to distribute the Holy Bible. And to have a fortune cookie say to Lawren that God is going to give him everything that he wants, I'm seeing a little discrepency here.

Message #2: "The will of the people is the best law."

My goodness. First of all, how is this message a message of fortune? Second of all, does this mean that whatever the people want is the proper way?

I don't know who is in charge of writing these fortune cookie messages, but their employment needs to be seriously questioned.

Lastly, what about the message that I got? Well, I refused to take a fortune cookie from the waitress who tried to force one on me. She asked how I can come to a Chinese Restaurant and not leave with a fortune cookie. I had to politely explain to her that although Chinese food was on the menu, this was by no means an authentic Chinese Restaurant. Having a photo of the Great Wall of China on the wall does not constitute a Chinese Restaurant.
